According to AIFA research, around 30% of UK consumers approaching retirement are confused about how a poor medical history affects their income from an annuity. It appears some are under the impression that if they declare health issues, this will actually reduce the level of retirement income they can get - when in fact it could greatly increase it. This gap could mean hundreds of people are missing out on possibly thousands of pounds of extra income.
